It's A Mystery!
Today's Tidbit: Another false friend (a word that had a different meaning in Shakespeare's day than it does now) is the word bootless. Today it means without boots. In a Shakespearian play it means fruitlessly, uselessly, unsuccessfully, or in vain.
I have a mystery I would like to solve. When I got home from work last Thursday night, something was missing from my yard. It wasn't flowers, my flag, or other yard decor, but two trees! Two very large pine trees had been cut down, and the stumps ground down to nothing! These two trees were probably thirty five years old and easily 15-20 feet tall. One tree was on the east side of the house, and was causing the sidewalk to buckle. The other was on the north west corner of the house. It's roots were probably under the house (my house is built on a cement slab) and would be in the way of any new patio or deck I wanted to build (I really need one or the other!).
I suspect my brother in law, or my brother & brother in law had it done. But, they both deny knowing anything about it! I suspect my brother in law, because he is the one I was discussing it with most recently. Whoever did it did a wonderful thing for me. I have told everyone in my family about it, and told them to tell the woodcutter, "thank you"! (Of course, no one knows anything about it at all!!) :) My yard seems huge now. It's much easier to mow my lawn. My gutters will no longer have pine needles and pine cones piling up inside them. Now the fun begins!
I will plant grass where the trees used to be. And, if my sister doesn't do it this week when her girls start school, I'll start getting a flower garden ready to plant. (Amy told me she would have nothing to do this week once her two oldest girls go back to school today! She wanted to bring over some rocks to outline the flower bed with.) I also just received a magazine that describes exactly how to plant a garden now that will create many flowers in the spring. Now if the nursery has the bulbs I need, in the colors I want...
If anyone reading this can solve this mystery for me, I would be delighted to know the answer. On the other hand, I don't want to spoil anyone's fun either. Maybe it's better to leave this mystery unsolved!!!
Blessings!
