What is your trust level?
Today’s Tidbit: Shakespeare had some great insults in his plays. Here are a few samples: “More of your conversation would infect my brain” (Coriolanus); “Away! Thou art poison to my blood” (Cymbeline); “You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things.” (Julius Caesar); and “Go rot!” (The Winter’s Tale).
Today’s reading in “My Utmost For His Highest” asks some very good questions. He says “Every time you venture out in the life of faith, you will find something in your common sense circumstances that flatly contradicts your faith. Common sense is not faith and faith is not common sense; they stand in the relation of the natural and the spiritual. “
Here are the good questions: “Can you trust Jesus Christ where your common sense cannot trust Him? Can you venture heroically on Jesus Christ’s statements when the facts of your common sense life shout—“It’s a lie?” These statements and questions got me to think about where I am and what I am dealing with these days. Do I really trust Jesus to keep His promises? Do I trust Him when common sense says not to? Whose voice do I listen to? I want to say I always trust and never doubt. However, I know that is not always true. Sometimes I do listen to “common sense” and don’t put my faith in Jesus. I have learned whenever I do trust Him; He is able to do amazing things.
I will share a few quotes on what faith means. Susan, the little girl from “A Miracle on 34th Street” says, “Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to”. And, somewhere I read the definition of faith to be “Fantastic adventures in trusting Him.” (I’m not sure where I read this. If anyone knows, please tell me who said it. I’m thinking Corrie Ten Boom, but I’m not sure.) All I know is when I do trust, I am at peace, no matter what the outcome of the situation. I need to trust more, and listen to “common sense” a less often! What about you?
Blessings!
